After two consecutive league draws, record champions and league leaders Bayern Munich will be looking to get back to winning ways when they play host to Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday evening.

The Reds went into the World Cup break with a fantastic run of ten straight wins in all competitions, but have struggled to score goals since the start of 2023. As a result of picking just two points from the last two games, Julian Nagelsmann’s men are now just three points clear of second-placed Union Berlin, so a win is definitely needed this weekend.

Bayern Munich vs Eintracht Frankfurt

As for Eintracht Frankfurt, they are unbeaten in their last five Bundesliga games. However, the fact that they only finished one game without conceding a goal in that period raises a question mark as to whether they can extend their unbeaten run this weekend. In addition to their defensive woes, they have also performed poorly in recent meetings between these two teams, making an away win this weekend unlikely.

Bayern Munich take on Eintracht Frankfurt this weekend needing just a point to seal a seventh successive Bundesliga title.

Niko Kovac’s side go into the final round of matches two points clear of Borussia Dortmund but their vastly superior goal difference means a draw will be good enough to become champions of Germany for a record 29th time with the potential to secure a domestic double with victory over RB Leipzig in the DFB-Pokal final next week.

Europa League semi-finalists Frankfurt meanwhile remain in contention for the final Champions League qualification position but go into the game having lost three of their last five Bundesliga matches.

Should Bayern slip-up then Dortmund will become champions with victory over Borussia Monchengladbach who, like Frankfurt, are battling to secure a top four place.

Bayern Munich TV Schedule

Icons dot the history of Bayern Munich, both on and off the pitch. Due to the success and draw of the Bavarian side, many of Germany’s best featured for Bayern Munich.

For example, Franz Beckenbauer, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Gerd Muller and Oliver Kahn had tremendous success across the pitch. More recently, players like Phillip Lahm, Thomas Muller and Robert Lewandowski helped Bayern Munich to domestic and international success.

Clearly, Bayern Munich is a feeder to the German National Team. Perhaps that is why a golden generation of German talents won the World Cup just a year after Bayern Munich won the treble.

Manager Julian Nagelsmann has options across the pitch to choose from. The only challenge is likely ensuring that this heap of talent is used effectively and cohesively.

Starting with defense, Dayot Upamecano seems to be the future at the back for Bayern Munich. With three at the back, Nagelsmann keeps him and Niklas Süle generally the same, barring injuries.

The midfield and forwards truly show Bayern’s depth. Players like Jamal Musiala, Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry have successful experience against top opposition. Robert Lewandowski’s departure in the summer of 2022 opened up the door for the arrival of Sadio Mané. He is a talented player who can play up top or on the wing, as he did at Liverpool.

In the 50th minute of Bayern’s match with RB Leipzig last weekend, Leon Goretzka volleyed past goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi and sprinted off in celebration towards the corner flag.

Victory would have guaranteed Bayern a seventh successive title with a game to spare and it seemed Goretzka had put them well on their way to three points. However, a VAR check by the officials revealed that Robert Lewandowski was marginally offside and the goal was ruled out.

The Bavarians were unable to find a breakthrough and were forced to accept the draw, keeping Borussia Dortmund’s dreams of the title alive.

Dortmund began the day five points adrift in second but Bayern’s draw combined with their win over Fortuna Dusseldorf means the gap is just two points going into the final weekend.

Bayern München Eintracht Frankfurt 2023 Match Facts

  1. After a run of 16 Bundesliga games without a win against Bayern (D3 L13), Frankfurt have won three of their last seven league games against the Bavarians (L4). Only Gladbach (11) have earned more points against Bayern than the Eagles in the top flight during this period (9).
  2. Bayern have recorded more Bundesliga home wins against Frankfurt than vs any other side (41). However, following a run of 12 straight home wins against them, FCB lost their last home meeting with Eintracht (2-1 in October 2021). They have never suffered back-to-back defeats at home to Frankfurt in the Bundesliga.
  3. With 36 points, FC Bayern are top of the table at the halfway stage for the 10th time in the last 12 years (they had 43 points last season). Bayern have gone on to win the title in 15 of the last 16 seasons in which they were top after 17 matchdays (only failed to in 2011/12 when Dortmund were champions).
  4. Bayern are winless in their first two Bundesliga games of a calendar year (D2) for the first time since 2015. They last started a calendar year with a three-game winless run in the league in 2007 (D1 L2). Coach Felix Magath was replaced by Ottmar Hitzfeld after the second match of that run 16 years ago.
  5. FC Bayern are currently on a 10-game unbeaten run in the Bundesliga (W7, D3), their longest run without a defeat under Julian Nagelsmann. The Bavarians haven’t lost any of their last 15 home league games (W10, D5) – last suffering defeat at the Allianz Arena over a year ago (2-1 against Gladbach on 7th January 2022).
  6. Eintracht Frankfurt have 31 points at the halfway mark in the Bundesliga, a club record in the three points per win era. They were last better off at this stage in 1993/94 (34, converted to 3 points per win).
  7. FC Bayern München have had the most shots after winning the ball in an advanced position this season (36), followed by Eintracht (22, same as RB Leipzig). SGE have scored a league-high six goals after recovering the ball in advanced positions, while Bayern are just behind them with five (same as Wolfsburg).
  8. Frankfurt have been in the lead for 262 minutes during their away games this season, with only Bayern boasting a greater tally (446). FCB were trailing for 86 minutes against Köln last time out, longer than in their first seven home games of the season combined (40 minutes).
  9. Joshua Kimmich’s equaliser in the 1-1 draw against Köln was his third Bundesliga goal of the season, matching his tally from the entire 2021/22 campaign. He scored from outside the box against Köln, having also converted a direct free-kick on matchday 1 against Frankfurt (the first BL goal this season). Only Eintracht’s Daichi Kamada has scored more goals from outside the box in the Bundesliga this season (3).
  10. Bayern’s Jamal Musiala (15; 9 goals, 6 assists) and Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani (16; 6 goals, 10 assists) have been involved in more Bundesliga goals than any other player this season. Sebastien Haller in 2018/19 is the only SGE player to have had a hand in more goals during the first half of a top-flight campaign since detailed data collection began in 2004/05 (17).
